as i continue, i'm sure ppl will not understand the title but here it goes....

had an idea for my "overflow towers" on my 125. talking to a guy for acrylic, but thought about pvc pipe, the big stuff.

i can buy a 20' length of 12" diameter pipe. i could cut it to length (20") for the height of my tank. then rip the pipe down the middle (i've down it before, try and rip dowels on a tablesaw, hahaha)

so, in theory i would have a curved overflow.

my box overflow (4d x 8w, 3 sides) would have 16 linear inches skimming the surface...

-or-

a pvc pipe (6d x 12w, half moon) would have 18.84 linear inches skimming the surface...

and also my acrylic fabricator wants $16/ft. for material, and whatever else for fabrication.

while if i were to do this, the pipe is $275 @ 62.8 sq/ft. $275/62.8=$4.3 per foot.

just throwing it out there to see if i'm crazy.
thanks for looking.

to be quite frank..... i've been working on setting up my tank for the past year.

and show me one (reasonably priced) place that sells overflow. non siphoning.

if i could make it work, then diy that bad boy, show ppl how to do it, maybe even sell a couple.

and what sparked the idea, was the theme for my new tank.

i wanted a swamp theme. my background was gonna be an american alligator at eye level, at water level with just his head sticking out of the water.

the round overflows i would paint to look like dock posts.

pretty neat? iknorite.

thats a pretty cool idea but you could also make an overflow and not lose and of your bottom footprint but just making it at the top of the tank and not go all the way down. total cost depending on the size but i bought all of my acrylic cut for 2 overflows and they were $20 for the pair. i had a larger one made for $50 or so but it was alot bigger. they are easy to put together as well. i do like the duck post idea though.

you can see the overflow in one of these pics.
