OK I know most of yall are building things on a way larger scale that I will be but let me run this by yall and see what you think.

I recently aquired a 75 gallon tank that I setup with S/A cichlids. I am just now starting to get the tank going and am still in the process of getting more plants and rock but, here is my DIY question. The canopy that is on the tank now is one of the cheap black plastic ones with the single bulb flourescent lights. The canopy is actually two pieces and is bowing in the middle due to the weight and heat from the lights. My wife and I visited a very nice store here in town called true percula. We were looking at the new tanks with stands and canopies. She tells me I wish our tank looked more like furniture like these. At that point i tried to convince to drop 5 grand on a new 210g with stand and canopy. NO GO. so now I have been looking on the net to try to find some DIY canopies that look easy enough to build. Have any of yall ever built a canopy and lighting system. I looked today and it looks like I could get two 48" lights with day and night time lighting for about 200 bucks. I know this was a long post and more of a story but I kinda wanted to tell yall how I came to this point. Thanks for all your help.

Ok let me know if that helps. I would provide some links but my phone doesn't't copy and paste all that well. Good luck and keep us updated, I want to try something like this in the future as well

Here's a simple canopy made from 1/4" plywood and 1x3 pine, with a T5HO light kit from hellolights. Total cost was about $200.
