Well I didn't get any replies in DIY section so here I am. ok well I while back my 75g sprung a leak so I decided to reseal.... well one thing lead to another disaster after disaster so I ending up leaving the hobby I was out for almost a year so now I’m getting back to it . I am making my own live rock out of cement and salt. I have about 23lbs right now. The stand is a black stand from pet’s mart. I would have built one but nooo parents think that it be ugly so they bout a 250$ stand instead. I had to cut off a decent chunk of my stand to fit the filter and I cut a little too far as you can see in the video so I had to use a 1x2 to fix that. I’ll be adding a ton of bracing by using L brackets on all comers; I always have a fear of it breaking on me so that why I’m using a ton of L brackets. I made the filter out of a ten gallon with a side panel from another ten gallon as the media holder and heater area. I’ll only be using a filter sock for now. It has about 8 gallons of room for a refumgium(sp) I’ll have two 21 watt light futures above the filter for micro algae and that good stuff. I’ll be buy reef sand and using live sand to seed it. Same with the filter. I’ll have about 140lbs of live sand and about 100lbs of live rock. For now I won't have a protein skimmer but before I have the corals go in I’ll get one.

sorry about the commercials but here you go

Welcome back to fish! LOL It always comes back. I too took off time from them but quickly ended up with more. LOL I got a 40g that decided to leak on me around 5am one day. God that sucked. I know how that turns out.

The petsmart stand is a great looking stand! Id be very pleased with it! My frined that owns the LPS told me to build a filter just like what you're doing. According to him, it'll work great. And with you building it yourself, it'll mean that much more! Plus you can work on it! LOL Great idea for the media section! I just laid the heater right in the center of the area to the side of the media but either way totally works.

I'd like to see some pix of this baby all done! I personally never did a coral/reef tank but some day I will... LOL Keep up on the progress posting!!

I persoanlly don't know a thing about instant/micro algea but I found a link, http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com/How-to-for-Aquarists-c81.html

Seemed to be pretty good.

ok thanks. also whats the best method for holding the rocks still i wass gonna use aqua puddy stuff you use for pluming but i don't have much

you can add it before

Wouldn't it have been easier to make the media divider out of plexiglass instead of breaking open another tank?

lol.. ever think of a mantis shrimp? that'd be a good use of one of those tanks :D
