So here's the deal...I shopped around with like 15 different glass companies and finally found the one I am going to buy glass from. I also went to multiple websites that have glass thickness calculators and looked at different Safety Factors with tanks. I am ordering the glass on Monday(tomorrow) and I am still on the edge of the type of glass I want...

Tank will be 5' x 2' x 2' or for you Metric peeps...about 1524mm x 610mm x 610mm

I will have triangular braces on the bottom of the tank in the 4 corners and on the top 4 corners, along with 2 braces on the top of the tank that are 4" wide.

I got price quotes for both 1/2" thick annealed and 3/8" thick tempered.

Which glass thickness should I get in your opinion?

I would use the 1/2" annealed.

that seems to be what the standard is from the manufacturers like Aqueon (Allglass) on tanks over 125g.

Thank you for replying, but I actually went with the 3/8" tempered. Talked with a couple glass specialists and they recommended it over the 1/2" annealed. I felt weird ordering so many awkward glass parts...

3/8" tempered
60" x 24" (2x)
60" x 24 3/4" (1x)
24" x 24" (2x)

1/4" annealed (overflow box/support bars)
8" x 12" (1x)
4" x 12" (2x)
4" x 8" (1x)
4" x 24 3/4" (2x)
Right-angled triangular wedges (8x)

I would have said the 1/2" annealed as well. Another advantage of the thicker glass is that it would have given you a larger bonding surface between the panes, which is relatively more important with rimless tanks. That being said, I'm not sure if your tank is quite "rimless" since it sounds like you're including some eurobracing? I'm having a little trouble visualizing your bracing arrangement.

1. Bought FX5 from a LFS for $125.
2. Raided 5 "Family Dollar" stores for all the scrubbies they had!
3. Called over 9000 people to find a GE Silcone distributor in Minnesota...finally found one that sold GE Construction SCS1203 black silicone! $7 per 10oz tube.
4. Glass confirmation order came in at $660 for all the parts including the drilling.

Pics coming soon of my DIY progress!
