So I've been wanting to make a background for my 55 gallon african cichlid tank but have not been overly impressed with the 3-D rock ideas I've seen. Well the idea has come into my head to build something similiar to a colosseum with the center front of my tank will look like an arena pit. the idea is to build a large scale wrap around ancient roman ruin. I have been searching online for anything other than rock backgrounds and haven't found anything so I'm wondering something like this has been tried but found to fail or if people just don't step outside the rock box. My plan is to use the same materials as one would use for the 3-D rocks and just take the time to sculpt them. Does the concrete pose a problem in how it must be applied or can I make it any color i want and just have at it? Any comments or opinions are appreciated.
