Diy sand filter or bead filters

Hellow i was wondering if any one on here has ever tried to make a diy sand filter or bead filter. Is so can you post pics and talk about the set up and how it worked exct. If not. Does any one have any good ideas on how to go about making a diy sand filter or bead filter. Thanks for you'r time. thought it might be a fun discussion that no one has covered.

dunno about a diy one but you can find used pool sand filters on craigslist for dirt cheap, replace the sand, plumb in a pump and you're good to go.
 
thanks guys ya i know were to get them. How to use exct. i can get one i want for 160 and a good pump for a couple hundred. Just curious if any one has ever tried to make one. wouldn't even know how to start to build a sand filter because the fine sane in it. But a bead filter seems very do able

Don't you have to worry about chemicals with used pool sand filters?

not really, think about the most common chemical used, chlorine, that's why we have dechlor. Plus I always wash out anything before introducing it to my tanks. And since most of any chemical residue will be in the sand and we're replacing he sand it's only going to be trace amounts left anyways.
