i need lights on my 90 gallon its a standard aga and im planing to make a canopy i have done some searches but i cant find exactly what i have been looking for. i need a set up that is cheap and gives acquitted lighting i only really need to see the fish they dont have to be all bright.
i am a visual person if you show me some pics i can design a system that will work for me pleas show pics and links

no body? i know some one has shop lights also do i need to use florescent or is halogen acceptable?

My husband came with this design for our 300 gallon tank, using two 4-foot shop lights. The lights swing up and out of the way when we want to get in the tank. From the front of the tank, the light unit hides all the plumbing.

Light unit raised up:

Light on in a completely dark room:

Plumbing hidden behind the light fixture:

You could easily mount shop lights inside your canopy.

dont go overboard with the lights, i also used two 4' t-8 lights like the ones in the pics above, only smaller (new style) lamps. i used single lamp fixtures. btw t-12's as pictured work just fine, just a bigger round lamp. any how, im lighting a 625 gal tank. 10'longx42"wide x 32"tall its wayyyyyy bright, and i didn use reflectors over the lights, so they shine up at the cieling too. point being, a lot of light wasted going up, and still bright. im not even gonna bother with the reflectors anymore. they are cheap at depot or lowes, or free from the garrage. good luck. nelson

Position the lights as close to the front of the tank if possible. If you put the lights near the back, the tank will be lit up but you will see the shadow side of the fish. Move the light about before fastening and you will see what I mean.
