Hello all

Obsessing again.
Made a 2x4 stand out of what I had. 2x4 were 48" long as a result the stand is 1/8" too narrow on each side for a standard 75 gallon.
The stand has a 3/4" plywood top (48"), and another 3/4" sheet on top that's 49". On top of that is a sheet of 3/4" Styrofoam.

Is this safe?

Thanks Dave

yeah I think you're good. That 3/4" plywood is still really strong with that small of an overhang. If it makes you feel better you could always add another piece of 2x4 or 1x4 underneath that overhang, butted up against the bottom of the 3/4" plywood.

I have a very similar question I would like to ask, I have a table that is exactly 48 inches has rounded edges, and was wondering, if I put a 55 there would it be safe with the less than 1 inch over hang?

I wouldn't sweat that 1/4" overhang in the least. The glass is still being supported, it's just the plastic tank frame that extends beyond a little bit. If the glass wasn't being supported, that's another story.

yeah most of the plastic would be resting, just off the sides, my guess is mine is more like 1/2-3/4 off the flat surface.

JJ, 1/2-3/4" over would scare me a bit. I've seen people do it, but I know how my luck is. LOL.

If you are going to over hang i would suggest laying a a piece of ply down that is larger. As far as how much can you over hang, my 40B sat for 4 or so weeks with a 6 inch over lap on each side, I had a bunch of people back out on giving me stands and what not till i got fed up and made my own. The tank needs to be supported around the base, the only other function of the stand is to not fall over. If the tank placement is against a wall then you have little to no chance of that, and i've only ever seen 2 2x4 split length wise and those had ALOT of pressure on them. so you don't have to worry about the "weight" being too much, unless you got >100g. Pictures a little rough as I wasn't taking a picture of that at the time but here's an idea.
