im wanting to build a stand to hold my 90 gallon tank. That part is easy and I was planning on putting a sump underneath that I’m making with a old 75 gallon i was given when I bought the 90 now that I started and was measuring them I realize that they both are 48x18 on bottom. My question is does anyone have a set of plans that will accommodate the tanks without having the sides and platform sticking out since I have to make room for the one on bottom and brace the sides. I will have extra room in back for plumbing so front to back is ok. I have a few ideas but was wandering of a tried and true idea.

I think I know what you're getting at. if you house your sump in a suitably sized stand, taking into consideration internal wiggle room for maintainance etc, then your stands top is going to be way bigger than the footprint of your display tank, I don't see any other way round it. so in my eyes your display tank won't be flush with the top of your stand. if you made your stand to fit the dimensions of the footprint of your display tank then your sump can't possibly fit in the bottom of your stand. you can't have it both ways.

i'd make a big stand so my sump went in comfortably, then put my display tank on top and maybe sit a plant or a couple of ornaments at the side of the tank just so it doesn't look odd. or you could get a smaller sump (or bigger tank) so you eliminate the problem.

Yeah I think I will get a small tank for my sump I guess then I’ll have a 75 gallon to build a stand for

Its definitely doable, but you're just gonna end up with a stand thats either a good bit wider or longer than the 90 gallon tank on top. Essentially what youre doing is a stacked tank setup.

We just had to deal with the same thing with my buddys tank and just made it a few inches deeper than the tank sitting on top dosnt look bad in my opinion.

you could use a smaller sump as mentioned or get crown molding to go around the tank.
