Hello everyone. I am drawing up plans for the stand for my 210 (84x24x25) and have a question.

I am using a 2x4 miter cut base and top, two cross braces on bottom, three on top. There will be 3/4" plywood over both.

I want to have large openings / doors in the front. I plan on using 4x4 in each corner. If placed in the middle of the 84" span in front, will a single 4x4 be enough? This leaves roughly 38" between the three 4x4's. I would think so, but am just looking for a little moral support.

I plan on using glue and good "L" brackets throughout.

If I had any idea how to "draw" on a puter I would post some plans.

At this point, all wood is your standard pine. I am however mulling the idea of going to some "nicer" wood, like the sweet douglas fir I saw at Home Depot.

I am building a stand for my 210 this weekend.
I am going to have a total of 8 vertical 4x4s,
I didnt trust it with only one in the middle.

Pine is just fine for the basic structure, save the nicer wood for the doors and 'skin'. 6 4x4 legs...if you put it in perspective is WAY stronger than any comercially available stand you're likely to find but I'm using 8 on my new 8 footer. I prefur not to have the entire stand sitting on a sheet of plywood because it makes leveling the tank/stand much more difficult. Use the 4x4's as legs and then build an internal frame out of 2 bys to support a 1/2' ply shelf for equipment about a 1/2 inch off the ground. The mitered 2 by top can then be attached to the 4x4 legs with screws and the 3/4' ply top attached to that. add the skin and doors...seal the wood well and you can easilly support three times the weight of your tank.

As far as leveling goes, I plan on using some styrofoam or home insulation to take up any small issues.

For your top rail I recomend going with 2x6's rather than 2x4's. I'll be building my stand soon for the new 8 footer so I
ve done a LOT of homework. The key is in overbuilding where it matters and not supporting ANY of the weight with fasteners of any kind. I'll be cross bracing under the 3/4 ply top a lot more than necessary but then I live in earthquake country...LOL
