DIY sump and ideas

It looks like you are going to dump water into a sump and then pump it back into the tank. It looks like a pretty tried and tested approach which many happy aquarium owners are very satisfied with. I don't see anything new here that hasn't been covered by hundreds of other threads? Was there some specific aspect of a sump you were curious about?

i was wondering when the two overflows connect would the water sit in the two pipes our would it just flow down.

It will flow fine, but there is a small restriction in the horizontal pipes, as it won't be working with gravity. If you are worried about it, use 45's instead of 90's. Also, after the Y, the single pipe should be at least 1.5 times the size of the two before it.
