move the air stones under the media that doesn't have a drip plate. And I don't see why the heaters need air stones. Other than that it looks fine just make sure you can fit all that in a 55.

It will work if you are trying to make a wet/wet filter (where the media is always submerged)

Will a wet/wet filter work for a discus tank as well as a wet dry?

i think you are trying for lots of media? put it all under one drip plate. and youll want filter before the scrubbies, on top of drip plates, to keep scrubbies clean.

In your first chamber where water enters the sump....
the water is coming in fast and furious then it hits the drip tray....
first of all won't it splash too much when it hit's the drip tray and
won't the flow be greatly reduced at this point?????

hear is a basic but very good design. The last baffle before the pump is optional and not needed, but it will control the water level on the media. I like to put some bio-max or other ceramic media on the floor of the sump just for a added bonus. Just use some egg crate or over head light diffuser panels to hold up the filter chamber and bio chamber. And plastic peg board for the drip plate. You can also feel free to copy this and change it to meet any special needs you may have. The next time someone asks for plans on a sump you are now the owner of the desisgn and must pass it on to the next.----------deal --------this design can be changed to make it work in a 10-20-30-40-55-75-90-125g sump or what ever.

I'm not sure what you're specifically trying to make. Definately not a wetdry so I'm not sure what the drip plate is for. Your media will always be submerged so you don't need the drip plate. The media will grow bacteria while underwater but not as efficiently since the water won't be as highly oxygenated as in a wet dry. Contrary to your apparently belief the airstones won't oxygenate your water much more, a good flow rate or putting a powerhead would do just as well by circulating the water.

If you want a wet dry you'll need to run your water level lower (you usually want 2/3 of the media exposed), in that case the drip plate will cause the water to cascade over all the media which is partially exposed to air allowing plenty of oxygen for efficient growth of biological bacteria.

Overall it seems like you're just trying to make it too complicated perhaps.

Here's the filter on my discus tank, it keeps it crystal clear and is also a wet dry.

No damsels for $5.98 each though (can you tell tank was from the fish store? I should wipe that off....)

Several filter pads keep water clear and also keep the biomedia from getting a bunch of gunk in it (who wants to have to clean biomedia?)

Whole album here: http://s207.photobucket.com/albums/bb142/anostomusternetzi/Discus sump/

Very basic, very cheap to make, very effective.
