I Have a 90 Gallon Fresh water tank and the hang ove rthe back filtration was costing me almost $30.00 a month so i took it into my own hands. I bought a 10 gallon tank for $10 buck and some glass from home depo and a pond pump from home depo and a bottle of silcone and some pvc pipes and parts all putting me around $60 dollars. Using the Diy pvc overflow The final out come is a filter that flows around 400 gallons per hour with an under tank refridgerum. all my my tank paramaters are better than ever and its been running for a month or so now and filter cleaning and replacement is as easy as just buying the filter padding for 1.50 per sq ft which costs me $3.00 a month to maintain my tank filter

What type of plants are you using? I don't know anyone that has a fuge on a freshwater tank.

How do you spend $30 a month on a HOB filter? Were you replacing the filter media constantly?

Because they use like 15 watts and the pump probably uses triple that.

how can u spend 30 a month on hobs? if you just spray them with a hose instead of buying new ones you can make them last a few years... i use the flat setting on my garden nozzle... it keeps the spray like a line that you can use to clean the cartridges..

because they would get clogged up after a week to were all the water was flowing out the pump side and not the filter side and i was using the expensive marine land filters which with the filter i had required 2 per week

i guess i could have sprayed them out but instead i now have a sump wet dry filter with a fuge and i just put some cheap plants and i made a fuge in case if i ever want to go to salt water i could put a protien skimmer in there
