Ok people this is my sump idea for my guppy breeding rack which will all be filtrated by the same source to make the water in all tanks the same.

Please bare in mind that I will have a dripping system in tacked running through several water purifying filters which I might add the plan drawing of later.

I was hoping for some advice and outlooks on this sump and maybe some pros and cons I might have not thought of.

First only breed for 1 trait at a time per tank so don't breed for fun age and color at same time, breed for one trait first then when that trait is achieved start breeding for the second trait, secondly separate all culls from the main population(the exception is u can put young fry with culls till they get some color, then u can decide wether to add them to the main tank).also guppies will breed well in 70s but stop breeding in 60s,u may have to breed several related individuals together for a few generations to get desired traits, however u should buy/trade every once in a while to keep putting in fresh blood to prevent to many genetic problems.

Also to encourage growth u can set up outdoor containers,if u have adequate sunlight and aquatic plants and don't overstock, then u won't need a filter, but u will have to change water every few days

Some initial thoughts on the sump. You probably still want some mechanical filter as the water drains to the first chamber. Also, given the water level shown when the sump is running, will there be room for backflow when the return pump is off? There are ways to break the drain siphon and/or adding check valve and need to just plan so the sump doesn't overflow. I know nothing about guppies ;-(

I like to elevate the return pump so if you ever lose flow from the tank to the sump you don't overflow the tank.

Yeah adding some Mechanical filter is a good point. I'm considering adding a good filtering sponge to the first chamber and some aquarium floss underneath the sponge for filtering, second chamber maybe some activated charcoal and zeolite in separate stockings and last chamber some type of ceramic media, haven't decided yet.

Also I'm considering using a overflow weir on my tanks ao that my water will only drain to a certain amount in the tanks and because I'm doing a drip system I'm planning to add a overflow to my sump in order to prevent the sump from over flowing, that water in turn will run into a container which I will use to water my veggies and plant when it is filled, maybe even later I will do a aquaponics system in the future but I will definitely look into a check valve as it could prevent other problems.
