Boyfriend and I are looking in to building a sump pump filter for a new aquarium.

The aquarium size will be around 125 gal. and we were wondering how big the sump pump tank would have to be.

We have a smaller extra tank which we're not sure how big it is. (I'm going to check later on).

We were also wondering if anyone had any links to good, detailed instructions on how to make one. We've got the general idea or rather he does (he's the engineer), but we want to be sure of what we're doing.

There are tons of DIY sumps on the site. Do a search and you will find all kinds of them.
For your tank, general consensus is about 1/4 of the tank size. Let us know what size your spare tank is and we can go from there.
