diy sump tank question

I have a 20g sump running on my 75g display tank. I have a return pump and a canister returning water back to my tank.

So here is my question. Is it normal to be losing 2" of water in the return chamber every day or two

Yes it's normal. Any evaporation from the tank or the sump will show in the sumps return chamber.

If from evaporation yes, especially if sump is not covered .
