ok.
i have no intention on drillign my tanks at all or drilling anything for that matter just because my parents wont let me and i have no parts or tools and the only place i know of to buy any is really far away...
so..
ive got an dea but have no idea if it will work.
it goes like this,
could i have a hose draining water from the main tank down to the sump by gravity and have a pump in the sump bringing water back to the main tank???
or will i just wake up with water all over the floor and my fish dried up in the tank?

ok no the hose will not work. either drill a tank or diy an overflow pvc thing.

sorry.
could you explain to me?
isnt that how it works?
like gravity fed so it just pulls water down to the sump and pump returns it back to the main tank?
is there any way of doing it without drilling or having to cut anything?

It is possible to use a hose and is gravity fed like a diy pvc overflow, but it would look really ghetto. Just search diy pvc overflow on this forum, and make a pvc overflow. General rule is 1/3 the tank volume for a sump, but most use less. For a 120, I would use a 30 gallon aquarium or tote. For a 180, I would use a 45 gallon aquarium or tote.

ok..
ive looked through some and am thinking of making an overflow box using my HOF.
possible?

It is possible.
They do sell overflow boxes online. This would be the easier way to go. I have both working in my house right now. One purchased overflow box and one DIY overflow. Both do the job they are supposed to do.

haha.
trying to save money.
i'd rather DIY cause i can get most of the stuff for free except that i cant drill or cut.
but im gonna ask my teacher if i can use the workshop drill.
