after making my last thread i also looked into making this tank out of acrylic, but i am having a hell of a time trying to find a place in my area that sells cell cast acrylic... i found a bunch that sell plexiglass.. could i use this instead of cell cast?

if not, i found a local glass company that i can get a good deal on 3/8" glass.. i figured since GARF says i can go 18"high with 1/4"... if i use the same height with 3/8" it will be even stronger...

the tank size i want to construct is 8x4x2 for those who did not see my other thread

what are your thought guys?

i asked my dad and he said that plexi is too flexible for a tank that size, unless you get it too thick to see through.or unless it is very well supported from the outside of the tank

i finally found a place that sells cell cast acrylic....

the guy told me he will sell me 4x8 sheets of 5/8"acrylic for $179 each.. sells like a good price but would like an expert opinion....

Actually that might be too cheap to be true. Make sure he is reputable and it is cell cast acrylic.

use acrylic. you will spend more money but plexi is wayyy to felxible. especialy with a tank that size. go to a stock building supply or another major wholesaler and ask them, thats what I did. i have not started my tank but they gave me the names of places that carry good acrylic. make sure to find a place that will do good cuts for you and be sure to tell them it is for an aquarium because they will take special care in cutting it right. check out this site, the DIY section for a great instruction on building a tank. duboisi.com
