Ok well I know the dimensions of what my DIY tank is going to be. 12foot long 4foot wide and maybe 4foot deep (depending).

My plan was to use 15mm glass but in 2 halves so effectively having two viewing windows so just under 6foot long each piece of glass. I was going to have a center post as the divider in the center of the tank. I figured this would help negate the bowing affect 1 sheet of glass would experience and thus allow me to use thinner glass.

Would like experienced peoples opinions.

Cheers.

What's this monster going to be made of? Wood / Concrete / All Glass (didn't sound like it)?

Your correct about smaller peices of glass and stress as long as they are not parallel and attached.

Sorry was in a rush should of clarified. Its going to be wood construction and sealed with fiber glass. The idea is to use two separate panes of glass and where they meet in the center have a solid post.

Hope that makes sense.

It is the depth that is really going to make a difference in a tank this size. Four feet deep is a lot of pressure on the glass. 3/4" is the minumum I would use.

That was the feeling I had. But don't forget that its not going to be a completely exposed 4 feet of glass. At least a couple of inches in from every side will be hard up against the tank sides and I likely wouldn't fill it all the way to the top. If say I did use 20mm glass would that be thick enough to use as one complete sheet as a window with out the divider I was referring to?

Thanks

I just found out that going from 15mm glass to 19mm will only be an additional $200au, so I think that settles that.
