DIY tank glass type?

I'm building a 110 gallon tank. Does the bottom plate have to be tempered or plate or does it matter? The tank dims. are 48x18x30 x 1/2". No holes drilled and decor is going to be no rocks just pool filter sand and driftwood.

Tempered bottoms are a sales gimmik that has been a thorn in the hobby's side for years. There is no advantage to using tempered glass in a fish tank (as long as it is not to be used in a commercial or high traffic area). Since you are making the tank, you have the luxury of not having to worry about a tempered bottom.
