hey guys, i want to build an acrylic tank that is 72 long by 36 wide by 18 tall...... now i plan on useing 1/2" acrylic for the tank... but here is the kicker.... i dont want a center brace..... thoughts? water would only go about 16" high.....

Height, width, and length are all important if the whole tank will be acrylic. Personally I would not do it without having a cutout to have at least 6 inches on front and back, 8 to 12 on the sides, and 8 to 12 in the middle.

Even though the tank is not that tall bowing will be an issue with 1/2"

A brace is required. THe most impactful things on bowing at height and length.

Tough cookies, but you could go with 2 inch or so acrylic.

A glass tank would also need a brace... But a brace would be more important on a glass tank because if it bows it can crack, or the seams can split.
