I am about to start building a 565l (150g) tank that will be 122cm L x 61cm W x 76cm H (4ft x 2ft x 2.5ft). With a safety factor of 3.8 the glass calculator shows that I ought to use 15mm glass. I intend on building this out of cell cast acrylic however and am curious if the thickness remains the same?

This aquarium will be placed against a wall which butts up to my homes attached garage. I intend on piping all the equipment into the garage in an insulated sump. Any suggestions before I get started? My goal is to use as little manufactured equipment as possible. I am very new to this but the idea of building my own aquarium set up and designing it to my home and my families taste greatly interests me. Thanks.

I am not sure I understand what you mean. The intent is to have all of the equipment in the garage but against the very same shared wall the display aquarium would be sitting on. The sump is going to be built insulated so the loss of heat would be minimal and only present within the tubing to any noticeable difference. This can be fixed with simple calibration. As for the sump or any equipment having an issue, I fail to see why it would be a larger issue if it was in the garage instead of the house; I can only assume any potential cleanup would be on the garage side and far easier to clean up then if the sump spilled all over my hardwood floors. The run of the plumbing into the garage vs under the tank exactly would be at most an extra 8 inches of plumbing.

Thank you for your input, I think we are just misunderstanding each other however.

a freind and i are planning on building some acrylic tanks bigger then that and were told that 12mm(1/2") would be fine.

mine will be around 225ish and his will be 245 or so. hes planning on an 8ft tank and mine 7ft.

Yep, at 30" tall, 1/2" would work, but it will bow like crazy. Go with 3/4".

Honestly, for a 150G tank, you would be better off just buying the tank in lieu of building. Building tanks generally doesn't get cost effective until you hit the 300G mark. Now, if you're doing this just for the DIY, then go for it.

It's for the DIY. One can never have enough projects started. It may end up around 300+g if I can convince the other half. In the place where I want to put this I would love to make it 153cm x 92cm x 244cm. But that's for another year. If I was to purchase where do you guys recommended for 150-300g tanks?
