I am building a 90 gallon stand using only 2x4 wood and flat head #12 - 3inch stainless steel screws. Is my screws acceptable for this project? I know the screws won't bear the weight of the tank when full.

I used 3 1/2 inch deck screws for a 180 gallon but will let others chime in about the stainless steel screws.

I know im extremely late but i wouldn't recommend a stainless steel as it has a lower tensile strength then your regular zinc plated or dichromate ( which i would recommend) with a self tapping tip so you don't have to pre-drill 100 holes

I dont think it's that critical what type of screw you use. The most important thing is that none of your screws are load bearing. The screws should be there just to hold the wood together, not bear weight. If i took everysingle screw out of my stand it would still be sat their holding my 180.

This is absolutely true.
