If I use 3/16: or 1/4" plexi will my lights melt it?

depends on the lights, but they will bow bad even without lights. you gotta use 1/2" or thicker to get no bow with plexi/acylic.

I've ordered tops from "Aquariumguys" there prices are reasonable.

my 1/4" plexi lids work but i got to flip them when i clean em because they sag.

you can put egg crate (light diffusers) under the acrylic to keep it from bowing.

the corners will actually bow up away from the water. i made acrylic tops a while back with the eggcrate under it, and whithin a week the acrylic was really bowed. if i flipped the tops, then it would start to flatten out and then bow up again.

i think it has to do with how the acrylic reacts to the condensation.

Even if you drilled the plexi and zip tied it?

hmmm, dunno. wish i would of thought of that before i scrapped the ones i made though lol.
