diy tank underneath and top?

I am thinking of building an all glass tank and was woundering what you do to the top and bottom. I mean you know how when you buy a tank it has some kind of plastic ir wood around the top and bottom, I was woundering how you do this and what to use or what exactly you do to the top edge when you build a tank.

You can buy a tank frame or even make one

you might be able to have a welding shop make an aluminum frame for the top and the bottom, or if you're a good welder do it yourself

you also may be able to get pre-formed frames from a tank manfacture, but the cost may end up as high as a normal tank.
