I'm planning on making myself a (big to me) 700g+ DIY tank. The measurements would be 96" long and maybe a 36"-48" high and 36"-48" deep. My questions are:
-is 1/2" tempered glass be strong enough??
-how big of sump would I need??
-what range of gph would I need the pump to push??

I'd worry about the thickness of the glass for a number of reasons... Even if it held back the pressure of the water fish large enough for a tank that size could damage it.

I don't think 1/2" will handle 3-4' of height safely. The height is where the water weight/pressue come into play, thus increasing material thickness.
I'm in the planning stages of an ~1000g tank.
8x8x2 and I'll use 3/4" just for peace of mind.

as a guess i would say that a 100g with 50-60gallons of bio media sump would be minimum, a rubermaid farm-type feeder trough would be good for a sump...

3000gph-4000gph pump would do it for a 700gallon tank. As for the thickness of the glass i would just go with regular glass at 1"
