Hello guys, so since i am gradually moving back into the hobby i have been scrambling for new ideas. Since moving cities/countries i have no tanks atm and since i just might move soon again i did not spend money on either the fish or whatever i build to keep it in.

So anyways, in my previous thread i was using trap to catch fish in the lake nearby and i caught a lot in a couple of days. We managed to ID them except one, but here is what happened today. Since days i was looking for a cheaper way to get a tank/tub/container to keep my wild caught fish and i tried too many things. Went to the scrap yard to find leaking or busted water containers and drums which i was planning to line with geomembrane to hold the water for my fish but i just couldn't find any. So today while driving back from my farmhouse we went through an industrial area and i saw one of the factories dumping this big thermocoal 4ft x 4ft x 1.5ft boxes so i immediately volunteered to take them. They look like it was a padding for some heavy stuff because the walls were very thick and it had extra veins for holding it together and very very strong. So i got them home washed them and cut most of the veins from the middle of the box to prepare a tub for my terrace for my wild caught fish until i can make something better. But i do have some concerns, i do not know how thermocoal reacts to the water or the oxygen or the waste inside it, is it toxic in anyway? Is it's insulating temperature properties act against the fish?

Also i am heading to the lake nearby tomorrow and getting the lotus plants from there to decorate the tub, if u have seen the pictures in my previous thread do you see any other weed or water plants in the lake i can use? Any other suggestions or warnings? Being on the roof and exposed to sunlight for at least 5 hours a day build up algae (which i know it will) what can i do about it? Get some suckers? I am going to add a sponge filter from my old tank tomorrow and use a water pump from an old cooler to pump the water up and spray it back into the tub from a small height to aerate it.

I have two more slightly bigger tubs too, need to make something of them as well. All suggestions and ridicule welcome.

I would coat the insides so it last longer, once set up properly u shouldn't have to much algae if u have enough lotus,u can also add a bushynose pleco(but line the pond first)

coat it with geomembrane or what?

Yesterday i got like 50 barbs and tilapias and around 100 guppies in my traps so i took them to a LFS and did an exchange. I got a siamese fighting fish, 4 goldies, 2 kissing gourami, 2 pearl spot gourami, 2 sharks, 4 angels, some mixed platy, a couple of loaches, 3 plecos and 2 red jewels. So i added them to the pond.

Also added 6 huge dried almond leaves half of which have already sunk. A filter from an old aquarium and a waterpump to create a waterfall and aerate the water. I also got a lotus plant from the lake and added it but the sticky mud turned the water dirty so doing a 50% water change daily for now.

BTW today i found a lot of clutches of eggs on the lotus leaves, have no idea what they are. Im not sure if it was already there when i took it from the pond or if anyone laid them last night. ID Anyone?

Look to me like snail egg clutches but who knows at this point

Yep, a friend just confirmed that as well. The fish arent eating them as well, will remove them tomorrow before they eat my plants. The cluster is like rubber, hard and elastic. Havent seen any fish eggs like these.

I wouldn't remove them,as they r unlikely to eat live plants, also any decent pond liner should work(this will keep holes and damages from forming)
