Anyone have any ideas how I can make a realistic looking tree? Working on a very tall terrarium, and I would like to have artificial trees going up the entire height of the terrarium. Was thinking about wrapping chicken wire around some PVC pipe and coating it with portland cement and then painting it to look like tree bark. Any suggestions?

like the pvc and the chicken wire idea, but for a terrarium couldnt you get some bark off a rotting tree and attach it to the pvc and chicken wire (id use the stuff with the little 1/8th inch holes) if you find the right tree the bark comes off in huge nice chunks, that way the realism would be just like a real tree, no painting needed, it would be tough to pull off in cement. also it would be much lighter and more dynamic than cement
Great idea with the real bark off the tree... I think it would go nicely siliconed to a piece of PVC, and would weight considerably less than a real tree... plus it'll be easy for me to throw the bark on a cooking sheet and heat it up to kill any bugs hanging out in there... definetly easier than trying to fit a tree in my kitchen oven!
