amongst the trees
Hey, I've been working on a turtle platform and waterfall for my girlfriends 20gal aquarium, I've got the styrofoam (white type not the stronger pink building material) all ready to go for concrete. I am using Quikcrete hydraulic water stop cement. Im not too educated about preferable types of cement here but maybe you guys have a better suggestion. Also i was worried about the turtles maybe damaging the dock so i was wondering whether or not i need to put a seal on it?? like Epoxy resin etc

I use the stronger styrofoam and quickcrete and the concrete color mix do that two or three coats then I use all natural stone sealer since it will be in the water you want to use a sealer then after two or three coats of sealer you should setup in a unused tank and run for a couple days or I use the bathtub a few times to get a ph and remove any debree to be safe for the turtles I'm actually building one myself currently ill try and post some pics soon but done it this way with my fish tanks and actually comes out to be durable and long lasting.

Use drylok. Not concrete.

No leaching junk into the water/water changes for weeks to get it to stop leaching, you mix in pigments (just like with concrete) to get the color you want, no ph changes, pretty durable, safe for fish, goes on just like paint, etc, etc, etc...

Also, I wouldn't use a sealer. If it wears off, whatever is behind the sealer is going to start leaching into your water. Just use something safe for fish (drylok) from the get go, and you won't have to worry about this.

No reason to use concrete man.
