Ok so I've read a little about them they seem rather nifty..
The price on the other hand being as how relatively simple they are
not cool.

So my basic idea would be to get a UV bulb some acrylic pipe whip it together
and encase it in a cheap aluminum shell or something of the such throw on a small pump and let it go to work.

Now the question is has anyone done it or have any ideas how to do so
or what would be the better way to do such a project?

Main thought is to use the acrylics ability to pass UV's through it and have the lamp next to it that way the water passes by it and no need for special water proofing.. The casing aluminum or what have you being what protects us and the fish from the rather harmful UV and I was thinking of adding mirrors in it to further its efficiency.

What flow rate are we talking?

How cheap do you want to do this? (need a dollar amount).

I am assuming that the aluminum is going to be on the outside of the UV sterilizer, which would not be in contact with the water.

The dollar amount maybe a max of 120 dollars or so...
but would like to keep it as cheap as possible it will be for a 70 gallon tank not sure what the flow rate should be
I just want something that will get rid of the algae bloom without totally ridding the tank of any possible algae growth for my pleco. :)

Exactly. I was thinking of aluminum or any other cheaper metal because
those lights will just annihilate something like PVC from what I've read.

Sounds like a cool plan. I am anxious to see how this DIY pans out.

you can get a UV from the store way cheaper then $120.00 for 75G.
