i need to know all i can. i want every thing in my sump to be made by me (if at all possible. and no my pump i didnt make but what eva ).

will clear vinyl tube work to wrap around a bulb?
will any bulb that admits a high uv work? If not what bulb do you suggest?
can i hook up of my return pump, and not loose any gph with being sufficiently sterilizing the water?
is this even a good idea or should i stop being a cheap skate and just go buy one?

info needed: its my 250g thank, 55g sump, 950gph, plenty of room under in the stand, so size dont matter, cant leak period im in an apartment and there already not stoked i got the tank, so yeah.

please let me know. and i am open to links i searched a little befor posting but got nothing. thanks

Why???

just buy one dude at least u know its gonna be waterproof n work and they come ready to hook up inline and everything and there cheap! I can appreciate you wanting to "make" everything but not worth the effort imo :)

alright alright ill do it damn it haha

i had the same idea ealer and culdnt think of how to doit even lokking at desighn im just gona buy one recomend the same to you.

hloy cow man r we hvinag a msislpelnig ctonetst? bsaecue I tnihk I can win. :grinyes:

The bulb needs to be an actual UV bulb because of the strength required. The sleeve needs to be quartz (as in the crystal). The reason is that glass will block the UV light and plastics deteriorate in the strong UV light. Its like putting something plastic out in the sun for a really long time.

so i came up with a new idea. if i put three uv bulbs over top of my spill over in my sump (bulbs @ 27 uv & spill @ 900 ghp) do you think that would work? i have a design to keep them from getting wet, in case of power outage.

That's creative. I'm liking that idea. You'll need to protect the bio-media from the light though.

can do its in a five G bucket but oll keep you posted if it works and take pics of the housing im building for the light
