I'm gonna start buying the materials today for the DIY Overflow and the actual sump, but I still have a few questions...
1. What can I use to make a sort of "strainer" at my overflow's intake? I saw someone put some sort of cap on theirs and then drill a bunch of small holes into it... what is that little cap called? I just really don't wanna wake up one day and find one of my fish missing...
2. Is there anything other than the actual filter media they sell at pet stores that I can use as filter media? I heard someone say something about pillow stuffing, I think. For the mechanical filtration could I just use cotton balls or is there something wrong with them?
3. About the pot scrubbers... which brand do you guys use? I don't want to accidentally buy pot scrubbers that come impregnated with anti-fungal agents that'll kill my fish.
4. So I'm going to Petco for the check valves and the pumps, etc, and then K-Mart for the materials for them sump, and then Home Depot for the materials for the overflow. If anyone has anything to add, something more I could buy at these places, I'd love to hear your ideas.
Thanks!
