Hello
I am about to embark upon my first DIY wet / dry filter for my 55g and have a few questions.
Should any part of the wet/dry be submersed in the sump water?
I am using a 5 gal bucket for the wet/dry part; I plan on using pot scrubbers for bio media, for the mechanical media I have some poly batting from Wal-Mart, I want to use buffing pads for the large mechanical media but I’m not sure where to find it. Any suggestions?

Thanks

its best to have the bio media out of the water with the water sprinkling over top. the way some pre-made w/d are you can add another polishing sponge block before the pump but other than than the only thing in the the sump should be heaters and the return pump. Not sure where you get the floor pads, but teh quilt batting from walmart works well.

Congradulations on starting your first W/D, may there be many more in your future.

Get the floor buffing pads from a janitorial supply company.

The bottom layer of scrubbies should be laying in the sump water, completely covered by water. None should be allowed to dry out.

Good luck and keep us posted / pics.
