I built this sump for my brother in law. He has a 125 gallon tank that keeps my african cichlids that I had in a 72 gallon tank that I sold. He always had a problem keeping the tank clean, then finally listened to me and allowed me to build this sump for him. It only cost maybe 20 bucks to build. The trays I bought at walmart for just $4.50 a piece(well I paid for 1 because the girl thought it was a set of 3, so would of cost $13.50 for just the trays. Then I went to Lowes and spent sometime there till I got the inlet I was looking for. Pieces of pvc for the inlet cost 5 bucks. The overflow hose was $20.00 bucks, and filter media i got off ebay, so dont remember how much it all(bio balls, carbon sheets, and filter floss)was. This sump cleaned the 125 gallon tank in 2 days. Crystal Clear water.

thats a really cool filter. is it a pump in and pump out or does the intake just come in from siphon action? also do you have anything to keep the system from overflowing in case of power outage?

It is a siphon into the sump. And yes. To stop an overflow in a power outage, I drilled a small hole in the outlet. If ya drill a hole in the back of the outlet at the water line then once the water drops to that hole it just sucks air and not water. Also there are lines draw on the sump for water level.

Picture no longer viewable! Can we get a re-post???
