I ordered a 40B from the LFS. The tank does not have a center brace that spans the middle. Are they supposed to have one, and will bowing be an issue if there isn't?

Cool, next question. I'm looking for glass hoods, but everything that I've found is 2-piece and requires a center brace. Any insight?

You can go to home depot or lowes and buy acrylic sheets to use as hoods or even use one of those egg crates or a combination of both. Also you can go to a glass shop and have them cut a glass that you can use as hoods. Of course you also just order hood designed for your tank. Plenty of options really.
Well, my problem is that I've been trying to find one, but everything I've come across is designed for a tank with the center brace.
Hmmm, other than trying 125g canopies, which would be expensive since you only need the one piece, you may be better off making one.
I couldn't find any 36x18 canopies that didn't require a center brace either, which makes no sense to me since there are a lot of 40 and 50g tanks without center braces. I guess because a 65g, which has the brace, is more common they're just not carrying them or something?

Thanks. Any ideas as to where I could find the plastic hinges? Would Lowes/Home Depot carry those?

They might have something similar that will work. I would personally just put normal hinges on there, but if you want the canopy hinge either a fish store will have them or you can get them online somewhere like drsfostersmith.com.
