do acrylic scrath kits work??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My friend's in the same boat as you. We're going to pick up some of that sratch remover stuff from Home Depot and see how it goes.

Depends on the depth of the scratches. I used the #3 and #2 goo from that one kit with an orbital buffer and it only seemed to help on the lightest scratches. The sandpaper kit I had that started at 1500 grit and went to 8000 grit didn't help on the deep ones either. I went to an auto store and got some 400-600-1000-1200-1500 paper and that's my next step. Hopefully I can get the big ones with that stuff and then finish the job with the finer grits then polish it with the buffer.

my friend went to autozone and bought 1000 and 2000 grit wet sandpaper. he first removed the big scratches with the 1000 then used the 2000. after sanding he used Novus 2,3 to polish it out. Took a l;ittle elbow grease but it loked like a new tank. He had a 10" royal pleco that tore up the whole tank.

i've never ownedd an acrylic tank and was always skeptical on how well they could be buffed out. Now you've given me a reason to choose acrylic, other than for it's lighter weight.

i tore up my tank and need to repair the scrath any suggestions

Please do yourself a favor and go to TAP Plastic. Just tell the guys what the situtation is and they will tell you how to fix it. Don't try guessing or experimenting or you will likely only make this situation FAR worse.
