Do aggressive cichlids tend to be more aggressive with a tank to himself thus having all the territory and nothing to do but to defend territory or do they tend to be more aggressive with small tankmates to piss off his territorial drive?

Being alone tend to make most CA cichlids become more territorial, and with it comes aggression. Thats why they tend to even attack outside the tank, since there is no interaction from the inside.

I think that having tankmates makes them more aggarsive than living alone because they will actualy fight instead of just flair their gills on the glass at the fish keeper.Once they have won a few battles it emboldens them to fight for more a like a gladiater:SaiyanSmi and thats when it gets dangerous for other tankmates and ends up in homicide:cry: .So that is why i think that a cichlid from a community tank is more aggrasive than 1 by itself also when i have had to get rid of a few of those killers i take them to the lfs and watch them tear up their stock tank for a while infact 1 lfs refuses my fish for that reason its:ROFL: funny but it aint when 1 has to go:nilly: .

When I had my Oscars together they were super aggressive. Now that they are seperated they have mellowed out alot. They are so peaceful now.

It depends on the fish. I've seen some pretty mean fish alone and some pretty mean fish picking on other fish. I think that the ones that are alone wants some type of interaction while the aggressive fish picking on other fish wants to be alone. :nilly:

Yes, absolutely. Without a shadow of a doubt.

being alone def makes them more agro.. my midas came out of a 75 were he was by himself and he is one mean bastard......... i have many other cichlids that are considered "super agressive" but started out in my comunity as babys they have become docile towards their tank mates i mean there is a little bit of manly show between some of them but no real incidents

I think growing up or living with other fish can sometimes mellow a crazy type out as they get use to living/being raised with other fish, than they may go crazy with new additions to the tank because they have never "learned" to play nice with others when they are kept alone? No way ! You don't really think you are the ONLY one that knows that pic !?!?!;) That's a classic!!:headbang2
