Are there certain cons that breed easier than others?

what are the best size and water parameters to breed them?

i've had luck breeding my female when it was about an inch and a half, the male was probably 2 and a half. also water temp was prolly arounf 80 or so, and lots of waterchanges to inhibit the spawning, at least thats what i have heard helped i just kept to my same schedule

as far as i know, all cons are the same - regular colors, pinks, and marbles are all the same species. then you have honduran redpoints, that ARE different, but breed the same way.

as long as you have a pair and some water in the tank you're usually good to go, but to make it better have clean water, a 30g tank or so, some dithers that won't eat the eggs but will give the parents something to focus on, a choice of caves as egg-laying sites, some high-protein foods like bloodworms and beefheart to fatten them up, and maybe a separate tank to raise the eggs in if you want more fry. if you leave the eggs in the parents will wait until the fry are free-swimming (not sure exactly how long they wait) before they spawn again, if you remove them and rasie them yourself the parents will likely spawn more often, every few days.

YES I have convicts and the Honduras convicts/ red point houndurans. just do a large water change with the temp from 78 to 82. If you haven't done your weakly water changes first do small water changes every day for a week then do a big water change .If thay haven't allready bread

"inhibit" means to prevent or make difficult, i think you meant "encourage". not trying to be a jerk or grammar nazi, but that wording might be confusing to others who are reading it. :)

Thanks for the replies.

I don't feed live food all the time, just as a treat.

I'm kinda scared of the feeder fish at lfs cause they carry so many diseases.
Plus I have never tried breeding nothing other than livebearers.

Would like to try breeding Geos one day but that will be another post.(not for feeders)

Thanks again

don't worry about feeder fish, unless you are breeding your own it's not worth the risk. frozen bloodworms are fine, or raw shrimp, or earthworms. you don't have to feed all the time, just add it to their diet a little more often so they fatten up and show strong breeding coloration. it takes a lot of energy for females to produce so many eggs, and you need to feed them well so they don't get physically exhausted from egg production and breeding behavior itself.

sorry wasn't paying enough attention when i was typing i just read my own post and was gunna reply the same but then realized it was me, lol oh well my bad

Is this accurate in all cases?

No! Actually its bad advice. Its much better to wait at least a month, or at least untill the female looks ready before removing the fry. The alternative could be a dead female. :irked:
