Do any cichlids like water with tannen in it? I like the look of having wood in the tank. But not sure if I should put it in there with cichlids. Advice please. :)

This I don't know however I've never been to a river, pond, lake, ocean etc...without wood in it. They remove nitrate so I would assume any cichlid wouldn't mind it. IMO though!

WOOD removes nitrate? ...No.

Any south american cichlid...

I have the little 1 1/2" JD in his own tank, and a 1 1/2" hybrid cichlid in his own tank. The hybrid, I think, from looking at a book from the library...seems to be...cynotilapia afra, origin...Shores of Lake Malawi. (Book was published in 2005.)

Don't know about Malawi but when I think of it, it should be fine. I keep driftwood with my JD as well. What you don't want is a fish that requires a ph of 8,5-9 and a tank full of dirftwood since driftwood will lower the ph. Usually only very little, of course depending on how much you put in your tank.

Alrighty then! Thanks so much for every one's advice. Going to put a nice three shades of brown-piece of wood in the JD tank for now. :D

Clock, thanks for the pimp slap! I had hernia surgery 4 days ago and am high on percocet! Bog wood etc...lowers ph and live plants or woods remove nitrates. The tennins are acidic if not mistaken (again)! Sorry I'm loaded!!!
