I have not got any of these, but they do look interesting, especially when young and smallish. There are quite a few available now, they seem to be getting common, for an endangered species.

I have not even asked the price. What would I do with them? Or even one of them? I do have a twelve foot tank, so supposedly I could keep a ten foot fish in it.

Are there any members who have got or previously kept these?

Oh ... for those of you who do not know what they are, Siamese Giant Carp.

i had two big ones (like 16 inches) they were one of the most skittish fish I've ever owned. determined to jump and bash their face into the tank

Wow, how about compared to silver dollars?

I swear SDs all eventually flat / deformed mouths from ramming glass

I don't know anything about the giant carp but they look cool!
I wonder why the ramming of the SDs?. Mine don't do that. Perhaps yours are very large? (Myloplus?). Mine are full grown but smaller (Metynnis).
I have heard the same about Hemiodus. Mine don't do that either, even though they are ~8" and are in a smallish tank, 6' 125g.

My SD collection is near full grown in the 8-10 inch range. They swim hard and fast. Out of my 20 or so only one has slammed hard enough to deform the face but the risk is always there 😅

Got one from predatoryfins.com about 6 months ago to try and grow it out. Didnt make it a week. I was pretty bummed. Would love to see one grow out. Hopefully someone has done it. B biggerthebetter has some i think. Look forward to more replies on this thread. Not SD related. Lol

the carp had the force and weight to kill themselves pretty easily. one of them tore a huge chunk out of their face in one go.. and they were in an 800 gallon tank

very hard fish to get past like 6" once they pass that they become much more hardy

Sounds like pacu behavior. (Powerful, skittish, and not the brightest) Had a very hard time finding any giant carp in my area at all in the first place. Still have no idea why it died. Could have suicided on the glass overnight for all I know. Ate fine from the minute I got it in the mail, up to the night before I found it dead in the morning. Would try again if I found one local. Predatoryfins prices are outrageous to me anyway. Had it in a perfect parameter 55gal q.t. by itself at about 2.5-3" btw.
