Hi everyone!! good to be here among so many knowledgeable and spirited people!

I have seen may admonitions concerning " be shure to have a secure cover for your tank because Araowanas are jumpers.."

but I have not seen anything regarding keeping an aro or 3 in a pond. ( per haps I did not search enough) and theit behaviour in a pond.
How would I cover a pond?? and still be able to view the fish?

The pond I have is a simple in the ground, cement pond, kidney/ oval kinda shaped.. I currently have Ciclids living their most over 5 inches but a surprising number 6 or so new youngsters.. they bred in the pond!

Also Tin foil Barbs at about 10 to 11 inches likewise Balka sharks 12 or so inches and many guppies.

This Pond is my planed "int the future" home for the Aro I am considering purchasing. Primarily because most concensus is the 6 ft X 2.5 ft X 2.5 ft tank is just not going to be big enough for life of the aro..

So.. the pond is "Plan B" if / when the Aro out grows the tank..

Plan C is I have an associate who promises to purchase the Aro after *I* grow him out... (and for a fair chunk of change) but that is not my first choice.. just a second back up...

OK enough " Rambeling"=

My Question. 1 ) The jumping problemn in a pond set up and how to solve it (is it an issue?)

2) Pond mates would be Large Ciclids and Tinfoil Barbs and Balka Sharks at some point in the future ( a year or 2 down the road) How would they fare together??

3) Consider I will purchase an 8 inch Silver, would he be ok with 4 Large ( 8 inch tall) Angels and I would like to also get at the time I get the Arro, a Black Knife Ghost ( I understand they grow to 30 inches or so as well)..

Ok Thanks for your anticipated help / comments... I hope this adds some fuel for thought for you guys!!

as far as i know arowanas jump to hunt and to flee enemies.

so if your pond has no enemiesi n it or it has no risk of getting frightened, then should be ok.

if it jumps out, it will wriggle back to the water like it does in the wild. question is, how muh grass or dirt do you have on the perimeter of the pond? so if it does jump out it doesnt get stuck on a mini cliff or something

Any pics of the pond? Overhanging of plants and floating plants can discourage arowanas from jumping.

TLkmDN had an arapaima jumping out of his pond to death before ... though his huge silver still lives quite well in the pond

You never know i guess

I cover mine with netting, it wont injure them if they jump into it but it also keeps them inside.

+1 but with my tank.. better for them to bounce than to knock themselves unconscious..

Kinda agree. Floating plants will help keep him from jumping BUT IMHO overhanging plants would stimulate an aro to jump. In the wild they are known to jump up and grab insects on plants that hang over the water. For the most part, YES they are known to jump out of ponds....
