I used to have a 240 gallon tank for years with 2 happy Arowanas, TGS, Sciades pictus, and an oscar. I never had oxygen bubblers in the tank. The only oxygen that ever went into the tank was forced in by the water from the filter and that only happened if the water level dropped. Still I wonder, is it neccissary to add oxygen for fish even though mine never seemed to care? What is the risks by not adding oxygen? what are the benefits to adding oxygen? Any insight on this would be appreciated.

you can observe if the aro seems to be gasping for air , but don't think additional aeration is required for arowanas :)

arowanas can get some o2 from the atmosphere by a special organ but they still need good oxygenated water as well.

ofcourse they need oxygen, how could they breathe without it? LOL, just joking. added aeration always helps any tank. but if you dont want the bubbly look, its fine if you dont add any. as long as you've got good filtration going
