Do barbels grow back?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine broke off at the base when 12 inches...during a transport from one tank to another.......they grew back, took a long time and good water quality and diet......other than that...here I am again....just got him back and again....both got broke and eventually fell off.........It seems to be growing back, just takes a long time, not like a torn fin....;)

Nice arowana tattoo by the way...you should post pix in the arowana tattoo thread I started...their are some in there already.....I did an asian arowana on a client and also post the silver I got on my forearm...anyhow, feel free to if you please....its in the photo lounge.;)

Sometimes yes sometimes no..IME they'll grow back a little quicker on smaller specimens.

Yes, the younger they are the faster.

as above said.. some grow back, some don't.

Thanks for the fast replies. Second question!

What causes them to fall off?

I just bought a 4.5" jardini and I just want to make sure that never happens, just to be on the safe side.:)

my silver's have grown back, twice :screwy:. my black's are growing back as we speak. they break by being broken off :D j/k, they don't just fall off. my silver felt the need to leap at least ten feet out of the tank during water changes...twice. my black came a little beat up.
