Hello guys,

There have been at least a couple of occasions in the last couple of weeks when I noticed my (7") BGK was not moving and "resting" on it's side in his tube (which is basically the plastic cover of an old Internal filter).

He starts moving if I tap on the glass or move the "tube" a little bit. He eats normally and is pretty active at night and several times even when the lights are ON.

Do BGKs take a nap or sleep during day time (as they are nocturnal hunters)? (I hope you guys clear this up as I skip a few heartbeats every time I see the BGK "resting"..)

He is in a 15Gal "grow out" with a couple of Pearl Gouramis. WCs are weekly and there is a HUGE sponge filter and a Boyu internal filter running 24x7.

(He is fed on Hikari Cichlid Gold (sinking) and assorted sea-food like Shrimps (cut) and jumbo krill.)

Regards,
Sid

yes they do. My CK sleeps in the day for a bit but when it sees my face it knows it's supper! :D

Mine does the samething...quiet and hidden during the day, out at night. wWhen feeding time comes during the day, he's all over it.

My Aba aba naps all day. He lays in a plant and doensn't move. Then at night he wakes up and patrols his tank like a shark. It made me nervous at first but it appears to be a normal part of his life.

Phew...Thanks guys!

Few or none of the usual visual "indicators" of fish health seem to be applicable to BGK. I had only recently gotten used to the idea that when he is OK even when swimming in several different angles (including 180 (upside down) and 90 (vertical) and everything in between..)

Thank you for the advice. I won't disturb his nap next time I see him do this.

Regards,
Sid

lol my clown knife some times gets mad at me for controlling his sleep.

One of the interesting behaviors of a Knife fish. Your Knife is fine. The fins should still be undulating a little, but if it's completely still, just check the gills to see if it's still breathing if you don't want to wake it up.
