do butterfly loach's need a heater?

How many could I hold in a five gallon with One male half moon betta. and one bamboo shrimp (not sure how to tell what sex it is). and what temperature should it be if they need one

no they don't need a heater, but your betta does, they prefer cooler water and a nice water circulation through out the tank, basically opposite of necessities of the betta. But if you must know you can comfortably house two or three in five gallon. I've had a few before, they are pretty shy though..make sure to have some type of hiding spots to make them feel comfortable.

they need a 4' long tank and lots of current and will not tolorate warm water....... and they need large smooth river rocks......

Basically 18-25 is comfortable
for they can do 14-30 without DYING

Tolerate? Maybe however they will never last long. Temperature maximum should be 74 degrees Fahrenheit. No higher than that.
