I am beyond confused about these creatures.
I bought 6 of these marbled crayfish about a year ago for feeders. I had placed them in six different tanks and found the by far, the smaller the tank the better for cloning. (I got clones from the 5G, both 10G's & One 20G long). Nothing from either the 40 G breeder.
With thousands of these clones, I still have yet to feed a single one to my fish? It is astounding, I have had better luck leaving the lids totally open! (Only like 90% of the crayfish up and walk out!). Lids sealed and taped shut is a 100% assurance of seeing no crayfish the next day.
i have had plenty of fish jump from aquarium, and never ever came close to having an issue finding the fish. Worst case scenario, the smell after a couple of days of decomposition would leave less than no doubt where it was.
I must either have literally thousands upon thousands of crayfish living in my basement (Fully carpeted) and thriving on insects, somehow got out of the house, or if they did die and dry, they have no s,ell whatsoever.
I did put one of those turtle/ lizard bridges outside of the 5G, and no lid! This seems by far the best way that I have been able to maintain crayfish at all. There doesn't seem to be anything that I can do to keep the crays from walking from tanks, but I have found that if I leave them a passage back in than some will return!
