hi i started a thread on one of my rtc that had bin slapped around by my other one. with that i gave him some timeout in his own tank only to fined after 5 days now he will not eat anything.. this afternoon i went to feed my rtc/tsn and my other rtc only to fined that he is acting the same as the other rtc and will not eat anything... the 2 rtc i have i got at the same size the same time infact i think they have spent there whole life with each other. do you think they are missing each other. i have moved them from tank to tank before and they will eat again with in hours. i have known koi to stop eating after being split up and then are fine once with each other again. do you think this could be the case

I had this same problem with some parrot cichlids and one of my old oscars. Fish have a lot more emotional feelings than most people realize.

I know that certain species of birds and certain mammals mate for life. I would think that certain cichlids might have a certain connection with a mate, and a minimal one, at that. They breed and protect their nest. I don't believe at all, that rtc's connect on an emotional level. Rtc's think about eating and pro-creating. they're not genetically wired like that. I think your cats are responding to other stimuli.

i say put them back together and hope for the best

what do you think the problem could be

I don't know and it's an interesting topic for discussion. I'm sure that you will get additional responses on this thread. Good luck.

Well, my ID shark was always a loner after my puffer ate the face off the other one. He was just a baby then, and now hes about 8 inches. ( a baby still I know). We recently got another one, about 3 inches and put him in with the big boy. With a few hours they were inseparable. I know that they are schooling fish, but still the connection was instant. After watching my JD eye the little one for a few days I pull it out and put him in another tank, but left the big boy in the other tank. I couldn't get either one to come out. They hid for days. So I moved the big boy over to the little one's tank and released him next to the little one, and they bonded again. The little one has since grown, and is about 4 inches now, and they are never apart. They love the jet and its so funny to see them try to swim so fast. We recently added a tiny albino ID with them, and even tho the color difference, (which i thought would maybe confuse them?) they all school together. So IMO, i do feel that some fish can get attached. But I know my RTC just cares when the hand that carries shrimp is coming back. But of my two pairs of blood parrots, one pair will quit eating if i separate them. (The male is the horniest thing I have ever seen. And doesn't care about anything else but her, and well food ). Just my two cents. But how bad was he slapped?

well his fins looked all red as well as marksall over him and he lost half a whisker. but he seems to be looking better. my other rtc is shedding at the min dont know if that will stop him eating. hope they eat soon.
