Hi I just acquired about a 12" long channel catfish for my 140 gal aquarium and was just wondering if a current would be a good idea since the fish was originally from a fast moving river with lots of current. The tank has a custom wet/dry filter I made and he is currently the only fish in the tank. I understand He will outgrow this aquarium eventually but for now I would just like to know how to care for him properly in the aquarium. I have a large fan blowing on the aquarium to help keep it cool since were having such a hot summer and I done have central air, temp is staying around 76 right now and he has plenty of hiding spots. Any ideas or tips welcome thanks. Ill try and post some pics tomorrow of the fish and tank setup.

Yes, your right a current on your channel cat will be great. All fish should have some kind of current, some require a stronger current than others. Big catfish have a tendency too lay around. Most do, a strong current will give it exercise and help his immune system. The bigger the catfish, bigger the tank, stronger the current. I've had alot of red tails and a piraiba. That current also going to keep poop from laying on bottom.

thnx i setup a powerhead to give him some current so now instead of lying on the bottom hes enjoying swimming in the current.
