Do cichlids that mature small and grow big, like cryptoheros, herichthys, or amatitlania, stop going into breeding dress after they hit a certain size? I know how breeding dresses are supposed to be like a warning signal to other fish, but then I can also see why some fish would stop going into breeding dress once they get large enough to trade intimidation by communication for intimidation by size. I notice larger pairs of convicts, herichthys, or cryptoheros don't go into breeding dress once they start capping off in size, so I was just wondering.
