I just bought a 5" NTT and he's a little shy. I have him in a 240 g tank with 5 clown loaches. Since their patterns are kind of similar and the CLs are smaller, will that help my NTT feel safer and be more active in my tank?

No they won't make your ntt feel more comfortable.

Get more ntts like a pack of 5 , or
Some Indos. That will make it feel more comfortable.

what if the size of NTT's are different? i have an 8" er that will swim around sometimes, very stable, and sometimes will hide behind the fx5 intake. Still won't touch prepared foods.

I also have a 4" NTT in a different tank that always hides, and was thinking about putting them together.

give the dat some time still. Took mine quite a while to adjust to me. But after 3 or 4 weeks he knew who daddy was

My biggest Dat is 10" and the smallest is my NTT at 5" So your 8" and 4" should be fine. My Dats like to hide behind my Fx5 intake too, lol! Very shy and mine don't like the light.

Ya agreed, dats don't like the light, but I force them to receive some sunshine (5 10w LED Elements & 2 48" full spectrum t8). But give it some time.

Cool thanks Ben! Man dats have always been a headache fish for me. I love their shape and pattern, but they are friggin stubborn and finicky.

I've always found the smaller they are. (like the size of all these mini tigers people are buying by the number) the more shy and skittish they r.

Most never have to patience to grow past 7-8 inch.
Once they are 11-12 inch, they can be very bold indeed.

It's so hard to grow them up to 12"+

Just takes time. Indos get there much faster though.
Cohazard, try to position the outlets as close as possible to the glass, then the 8 inch ntt won't beable to squeeze itself begin it.
I would have both the ntts in the same tank.
